Remember consulting the dictionary as a kid when one of your friends would throw out a word you didn’t quite know the meaning of?  Maybe I was the only one that did this.  Thinking of that time though, I would have never thought words like “tweep” or “Tebowing” would ever be in the dictionary, let alone have a definition.

But, because of evolving times and the use of these made up, slang terms, they could very well be.  With your help, words that we just pulled out of thin air to describe a situation could end up in Collins Dictionary.  So far, hundreds of words and meanings have been sent in to the website for consideration.

“For Collins Online Dictionary, it was essential that we keep our ear close to the ground listening out for new words emerging from pop culture, science and technology,” said Alex Brown, Head of Digital, in a press release.

“Most dictionaries are static,” Brown says. “By allowing the public to truly participate, we’re ensuring that we stay on top of the evolving English language.”

Nine words have a good shot at making it into the dictionary are…

  • Photobombing
  • Amazeballs
  • Cyberstalking
  • Tweeps
  • Beer Googles
  • Lollage
  • YOLO
  • Livestream
  • Superphone

What do you think about this list?  Personally, out of all of these words I would say ok to Photobombing, Cyberstalking, Tweeps, Livestream and Superphone because I think those are words we use a ton and to keep up with the times, you should know what they mean and how they are used.

But YOLO?  C’mon man! That’s an acronym!

What word or words would you submit for consideration?
