Miley Cyrus Drops Emotional 'Slide Away' Days After Liam Hemsworth Split

The latest from Cyrus seems to reflect the relationship

Miley Cyrus has released a seemingly personal new song, “Slide Away,” just days after her announced split with husband Liam Hemsworth.

Filled with ocean imagery and hints towards their breakup, “Slide Away,” tells the story of a fairy tale romance that has disappeared, potentially wrecked by addiction and emotions. In the end, each party retreats to their own environment, one out to the ocean and one back to the city.

“I want my house in the hills, don’t want the whiskey and pills,” see sings. “I don’t give up easily but I don’t think I’m down.”

Already fans are piecing together clues from “Slide Away,” proposing that the ocean is home for Hemsworth, and also a call back to Cyrus’ 2017 love song “Malibu.” TMZ has also reported partying ways of Liam being a potential reason for the split, which might be where the whiskey and pills come from. They are also reflect in the art for the song, with a bottle and pills floating in the water on the cover.

“Move on, we’re not seventeen. I’m not who I used to be,” she continues. “You say that everything’s changed. You’re right, we’re grown now.”

Cyrus and Hemsworth were married in December of 2018, but first met on the set of the 2010 film, The Last Song. Cyrus was 17 at the time.

“Slide Away” is produced by frequent collaborator Mike WiLL Made-It and Andrew Wyatt from the band Miike Snow. Both also have writing credits on the song along with Finnish singer Alma.

Liam Hemsworth is reportedly still spending time in his native Australia after the split, with Cyrus returning to the US on Wednesday with Kaitlynn Carter.

Both Hemsworth and Cyrus have previously spoken out in Instagram comments, with Liam confirming the separation and saying, "I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
